Kaleidoscoping With DJ Tiesto

DJ Tiesto is one of the most popular DJs that transformed trance music into an art form. The Dutchman continues to trot around the globe, playing in Italy one day and Greece the next, which for him is business as usual. Tiesto has his own sound, light, and visual crews and takes the trouble to create one of the most spectacular dance music arenas. He founded Black Hole Recordings in 1997 and released two records of his own.

Tiesto is a Grammy nominee and performed at the Athens Olympics, composing special music for the occasion. In his journey to the top he has remixed works of The Kilers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Bloc Party and also Delerium's Silence featuring Sarah McLachlan, and Dance4Life featuring Maxi Jazz from Faithless. Tiesto attributes his success to his fans and his honesty in what he does, which is pure emotion with no acts or gimmicks attached. He loves DJing and for him it is not only about the ability to create a party zone but about how music moves people as well.

Other works from the electronic pioneer include Kaleidoscope with a stunning collection of songs recorded with icons of dance, pop, and rock which include Nelly Furtado, Emily Haines from Metric, Kele Okereke from Bloc party, and more. His aim has always been to work with different artists that he liked although he admits that the toughest thing was to get the likes of Sigur Ros and Bloc Party to collaborate who generally don't work with dance DJs and artists. However, after views Tiesto's crowd-pulling performances in Brazil, they all jumped on board. The first were the Canadian indie duo of Tegan and Sara who produced an epic, shimmering floor-filler, 'Feel It In My Bones' with Tiesto in 2008.

Nelly Furtado and her producer, Timbaland, met up with Tiesto at the 2008 Miami Winter Music Conference where he performed to a full house. The meeting led to the production of 'Who Wants To Be Alone'. Catching up with Tiesto in Ibiza was Emily Haines of Metric who ended up producing the euphoric tune 'Knock You Out.' Tiesto did a remix of Bloc Party's 'One More Chance' and later hooked up with Kele Okereke who agreed to perform on his album. The lead single on the album is 'I Will Be Here', from his collaboration with Sneaky Sound System from Australia. Tiesto describes it as a bold party tune with a stirring house-dive vocal which he crafted in less than a week.

Tiesto caught up with Sigur Ros singer Jonsi Birgisson in Chicago, Brussels, and Amsterdam to create Klaeidoscope, the song that shaped the album's title. Their types of music are different but the collaboration on the album is unique. Jonsi is one of the most creative artists in the world and makes a lot of dance music at home on his own. The result of their collaboration was the progressive trance song, Kaleidoscope, which is the title of the album too. An album that is completely different. That is what people want.
