DJing With Miami's Danny Daze
Miami-born Danny Daze is a techno beat D/producer who is never willing to settle for mediocrity. His recently set the record straight, adding his ammo to disco-tech on Hot Creations, 'Your Everything.' Danny was back in London in October after playing at Fabric and smashing DCV10 closing in Ibiza to play alongside Clive Henry and Martin Dawson at Village Underground. Danny met up with Hot Creations in Miami. For him the time is not right to come out with an album just yet, preferring to wait for a time when downtempo and uptempo music and everything in between is something that people want to hear. Danny enjoys his gigs in London where he claims that people know their music.
Danny has been getting a lot of attention lately and spends a lot of time on the decks at clubs in Miami and around the US including rare downtown sets at the Vagabond and White Room. He delivers raw and energetic sets that are unique and produces his own music. Danny also works with Midwest DJs Gigamesh and Joe Maz as part of DicoTech. The trio has produced remixes for Kanye West, Chris Cornell, and All-American Rejects. Danny was born with discs in his hands and as a 13 year old spent his time wandering around record stores in search of something different from what he heard at the clubs. Techno and electro were his first love, beginning his first tryst with DJing at Fruity Loops. Danny has come a long way and is now famous in Asia and South America as well.
Danny got into the DJ scene through Techno-Electro, a Clone Records, Metroplex, Underground Resistance production, which is still his major influence although he is glad not to get into the ugly side of the rave scene. European artists such as I-F, Anthony Rother, and Thomas Schumacer have influenced Danny who also discovered a penchant for classic house music. At an early age he was exposed to the old break-dancing stuff from Newcleus, Afrika Bambaataa, and Maggotron Crushing Crew. He discovered house music at record stores, where Submission - Women Beat Their Men was a tune that caught his ears. He was introduced to Dark Beat at an after party and vowed to present the sounds in the future. Danny's other major influences are Dexter, Anthony Rother, and Alden Tyrell.
While some DJs believe in one sound Danny believes in an eclectic mix, preferring Squarepusher, Dexter, and Thievery Corp to just one sound. For Danny, the US scene isn't too hot where even Techno-Electro-IDM that was hot 15 years ago seems to have disappeared. However, the European scene is more of a culture, where house music is a part of everyday life, which is why Danny wishes he could live out there. Incidentally, Danny has toured Europe, Asia, and a few South American countries. Danny met Joe Maz through MySpace when they were both doing bootleg remixes. Along with Gigamesh, he has workd on the Discotech project. According to Danny, what made those projects successful were their different backgrounds.
